March saw the launch of 16th edition of the Trencherman's Guide, which showcases top restaurants in South West England, all of whom are featured on this website.
The restaurants featured in Trencherman's are invited into the guide on the basis of their consistently high ratings across a selection of top international publications. These include `The Michelin Guide',`Which? Good Food Guide' and the `AA Restaurant Guide'. The first Trencherman's Guide was published in 1992 and the guide has continued to grow in size and standing year on year since then.
51 award winning restaurants are featured in this year's guide, including 15 new entries. Michelin starred establishments such as The Bath Priory Hotel & Restaurant,Bath and Michael Caines at Abode, Exeter, Devon are positioned alonside regional favourites like Rick Stein's Seafood Restaurant, Padstow, Cornwall and the Tollgate Inn, Nr Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire.
New entries for 2007 include the award winning Parkers Brasserie at Hotel on the Park, Cheltenham, the prestigious Hotel Endsleigh, Tavistock, Devon and the Michelin starred Lucknam Park Hotel restaurant, Bath thereby making it an indispensable accompaniment for anyone looking for foodie inspiration.
Many of the restaurants featured offer high class accommodation as well as delicious food, for example the Relais and Chateaux Summer Lodge Country House Hotel, Bridport, Dorset and the recently renovated and hugely impressive Gidleigh Park Chagford, Devon.
South West England is widely regarded as a desirable foodie destination and as testament to the region's burgeoning gourmet reputation the introduction to the 2007 guide has been written by Christine Hayes, Editor of Olive magazine.
